Mayunkiki

Mayunkiki is an Ainu artist, musician and Ainu-language teacher based in Hokkaido. She is a member of the vocal groups Marewrew and Apetunpe, which perform traditional Ainu song, and began solo performances in 2021. Since 2018 she has researched sinuye, the traditional tattooing of Ainu women, and works with photography, video, performance and installation. She was Ainu culture coordinator of the Sapporo International Art Festival 2020 and has exhibited at the 22nd Biennale of Sydney (2020), Ikon Gallery in Birmingham (2022) and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2024).
