Shortcutz Amsterdam

Films screened in the annual competition are eligible for the Shortcutz Amsterdam Annual Awards. The Mr Zee categories include Best Film, Best Director, Best Acting, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Documentary and Best Soundtrack. Best Film nominees also participate in the International Audience Award. For the 13th Annual Awards on 25 January 2026, the published prizes are €15,000 in services for Best Film, contributed equally by FILMMORE and CAM-A-LOT; a €5,000 cash prize for Best Director from VEVAM; and €2,500 in equipment rental for Best Cinematography from CAM-A-LOT. The jury decides the main categories, MiMM/Private Kitchen decides Best Soundtrack, and audiences decide the International Audience Award. The ceremony also includes the Rutger Hauer Award, recognising support for emerging Dutch filmmakers.

Competition entries must have a connection to the Netherlands: the director or producer must be Dutch, have lived in the Netherlands for more than five years, or have a Dutch production company. The director must be an emerging filmmaker who has not yet made a first feature film of more than 70 minutes. Films must be produced within the 12 months preceding submission and run under 20 minutes; the organiser allows 20 minutes plus credits. Live-action, animation, documentary and experimental films are accepted. Films in languages other than English require English subtitles. At least one member of the main team must attend the mandatory Q&A. Submissions are made through FilmFreeway. An edit-locked film intended to premiere at Shortcutz may be submitted before final completion if the application explains the remaining changes and expected delivery date.
