SCHLiNGEL groups international cinema for young audiences into children's, junior and youth competitions, alongside German-language features, animated features and short films. Based in Chemnitz, Germany, the festival dates back to 1996 and is organised by Sächsischer Kinder- und Jugendfilmdienst e.V., with Sächsische Landesmedienanstalt as co-organiser. Its juries include children and teenagers as well as film professionals.

The SCHLiNGEL Industry Forum includes discussions, pitching sessions, masterclasses and case studies for accredited professionals and invited filmmakers. Beyond the festival, the organiser supports access to international children's cinema through dubbing, distribution initiatives and screenings across Saxony and abroad. The dates for the 32nd edition are 30 September–8 October 2027.
