FESCISA presents independent short and feature films to audiences in San Antonio de Ibarra, in Ecuador’s Imbabura province. Its selection combines local, regional and international work, with an emphasis on human and social themes, solidarity, childhood and women. The programme includes fiction, documentary and experimental features, alongside short fiction, documentary, experimental, animation, horror and social films. A separate Latin American short film competition adds a regional focus to the international selection.

The festival also accepts screenplays for short and feature films, with awards for both formats as well as its film categories. Its submission rules distinguish shorts of 1–35 minutes from features of 36 minutes or more. The dates for the 11th edition are 19–22 March 2027.

Festival rules

Short films run from 1 to 35 minutes; feature films run for 36 minutes or more. The published 2027 rules require films produced after 1 January 2025. Films in languages other than Spanish or English require subtitles in one of these languages unless dialogue or commentary is unnecessary for understanding. Submissions use an online screener through the festival’s submission partners. There is no limit on films per representative. Previously submitted films are eligible again only after significant changes, with a detailed list of changes supplied. Entries undergo curatorial selection by a committee of film professionals. Submission fees are non-refundable. Screenplay competitions cover short films and feature films. Consult the official regulations and submission platform for current fees and deadlines.
