Salute Your Shorts Film Festival is a short film festival in Los Angeles, held at the Assistance League Theatre. Started by filmmakers, it programmes a compact selection of shorts from around the world in every genre under the motto “Films with an Aftertaste”, keeping room for local work and screening to an audience that includes working industry professionals. Panels, workshops and filmmaker events run alongside the screenings, and selected filmmakers join an alumni community that includes Jim Cummings and Mark Duplass. Shorts from past editions are also released online through the festival’s digital release.

Juries name winners and honourable mentions in dramatic, documentary, experimental, comedy, genre and animated shorts, super shorts under five minutes and local films, alongside programmers’, audience and best-of-fest awards. The 2027 edition takes place 27–29 August 2027.

Festival rules

Premiere status is not required: films already available online or screened in Los Angeles are considered. Every submission is watched in full by the selection team. Entries for the super short award must reach their end credits by 4:59; longer films are entered in their genre category. Music videos, screen-dance and experimental work are entered as experimental; spec music videos are accepted. Students are welcome and should name their school in the cover letter. Films from any country are accepted; all material must be in English or have English subtitles. Work must be original, apart from copyrighted music, which is accepted. Entry fees are non-refundable, no screening fees are paid, and the festival may decline to give an award in a category.
