Rural FilmFest takes cinema into rural settings through EcoFilms, a competition focused on ecology, nature and rural life, alongside the open-theme RuralFicción section and films for children. Its international selection includes documentary, fiction and animation in short, medium-length and feature formats. The festival combines screenings with outdoor activities and a geocaching awards ceremony, in which filmmakers locate their trophies using GPS coordinates. Selected films also circulate through the Rural FilmFest Tour, with authors informed of each event.
The festival belongs to the Green Film Network and Pantalla Federation. The 15th edition takes place in Camp d’Elx, Alicante, Spain, from 28 June to 4 July 2027.

Festival rules
The 2027 competition accepts films from filmmakers worldwide, including works previously screened at festivals or online. Multiple submissions are permitted. EcoFilms covers ecology, nature and rural life through fiction, documentary and animation; RuralFicción accepts free-theme films. Rural Kids is for children’s films. The Valencian film award is for filmmakers born or resident in the Valencian Community.
Short films run up to 25 minutes, medium-length films from 25 to 45 minutes, and features over 45 minutes. Films may originate in any format; screenings use digital files. Spanish subtitles are not required for selection but are required for public screenings of films in other languages. The Spanish-language regulations also request English subtitles for Spanish-language films.
Submissions are through FilmFreeway, Festhome or Movibeta, with a deadline of 30 April 2027. Entry fees are non-refundable and the festival does not pay screening fees. Rights holders grant exhibition rights for the sections in which their films are selected. The organisers may use up to 10% of selected works for promotion. Selected films join the Rural FilmFest Tour, with authors informed in advance of each event. Submission implies acceptance of the regulations.
