Prime the Animation! is an animation festival for students and first-time directors, organised by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and coordinated by its research group Animación UPV. It began in 2013 as a non-competitive showcase of student short films linked to World Animation Day and became a competitive festival in 2017. The short film competition is open to student films and debut shorts made outside education, from any country, created with frame-by-frame animation; works made with artificial intelligence are not accepted. Alongside the competition screenings, the programme includes a pitch session for animation projects, portfolio reviews, professional talks and feature screenings. The festival is part of FAN, the Festival Animation Network.

The 14th edition, under the motto “Libertad” (Freedom), runs from 24 to 31 October 2026 in Valencia, at the UPV Faculty of Fine Arts, the Filmoteca Valenciana and partner venues, with a family screening at the Filmoteca on 1 November 2026.
