Pendance Film Festival is a Toronto festival for independent cinema that programs by its motto “Story Over Everything”: every submitted film is watched in full by the programming team, and selection does not depend on budget, buzz or star power. Each winter it presents a small, tightly curated slate of Canadian and international narrative and documentary features and shorts, with dedicated sections for genre “Midnight” shorts, emerging talents, and children’s and animation shorts. Selected filmmakers receive travel support, and past selections stream for free on the Pendance Library, launched in 2021.

The festival was co-founded by its director Robert Misovic; its first edition was a single night of short films at the Regent Theatre in midtown Toronto on 15 December 2017. The tenth-anniversary edition runs 26 February – 5 March 2027 with an expanded lineup and additional screening venues.
