OpenEyes Filmfest is a short film festival in Marburg, Germany, where the audience decides the winners: films in the international programme compete for audience prizes in fiction, documentary, animation and experimental film or music video, and viewers vote by app or ballot. Films run up to 30 minutes, and the selection of 80 to 120 titles a year gives particular room to subjects and productions that are usually under-represented, to films without previous festival screenings and to local filmmaking.

The festival started in 1994 as an open-air event at the Amöneburg castle ruins and has kept its open-air character through several venues. It is run by the non-profit Verein zur Förderung der Filmkultur in Marburg e.V.; students from its seminars at Philipps-Universität Marburg take part in the selection, and the festival produces its own audio-described versions of films. The 30th edition took place on 24–27 July 2025 at the Schlossparkbühne and the Capitol cinema; the organisers have left open whether a further edition will follow.

Festival rules

Rules of the 2025 call for entries: short films of any genre, maximum 30 minutes including credits, completed after 1 January 2024; films from 2023 were accepted if they had not yet screened at a festival in Germany. Submission is free through the festival's own platform; fees paid on other platforms such as FilmFreeway are not refunded. Viewing copies must be in German or English or have German or English subtitles; all selected films are screened in the original version with English subtitles (the festival can help with subtitling). Each film is entered in one category: fiction, documentary, experimental film/music video or animation. Screening copies: DVD, Blu-ray, HD file (H.264/H.265 or ProRes 422, up to 80 Mbit/s) or DCP. Selected entrants were informed by 15 June 2025.
