International Animated Film Festival KROK

KROK (Ukrainian for “step”) dates back to 1989 in Kyiv and shows animated films made in the previous two years. Its signature format is a ship: by tradition the festival cruises aboard a vessel, with the route alternating between Ukraine and Russia, and screens its programmes in the towns along the way. The 2019 cruise selection comprises 123 films from 33 countries, chosen from 1,084 submissions from 62 countries.

A Kyiv programme titled “In the Home Harbour” (У рідній гавані) screens at the Kyiv House of Cinema. Its 2020 edition, numbered XXVII, takes place on 7–13 December 2020 with international and national competition programmes of nearly 100 films from 20 countries. In 2022 the festival takes Ukrainian animation abroad, with screenings at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Los Angeles on 26 and 28 August 2022.
