EXiS presents experimental film and contemporary moving-image art. Its organiser, the non-profit Moving Image Forum, describes it as the only film festival in Korea dedicated exclusively to experimental film, and the festival's regulations call it one of the few platforms in Asia that keep presenting work by artists who use celluloid film. It was founded in 2004.

The programme combines the EX-Now international and Korean competitions with curated EX-Choice sections, EX-Retro retrospectives, Indi-Visual spotlights on working artists, an Asia Forum that dates from 2009, and Audio Visual Performance, added in 2021. The dates of the 23rd edition are 23–30 July 2026, with screenings at the Korean Film Archive, MMCA Seoul and the Seoul Film Center.

Awards and prizes

The EX-Now competition presents the Best EXiS Award, the Korean EXiS Award, the Jungwoon Award and, if necessary, a Jury Special Mention.

Festival rules

The EX-Now competition has an international and a Korean section. The 2026 regulations accept films completed in 2024–2026. There is no premiere requirement, but applicants state the premiere status of their film. Entries need the online entry form and an online screener; films in languages other than English must have English subtitles. A preliminary selection committee reviews all submissions, and selected films may not be withdrawn. Screening fees are paid to all films selected for the competition: KRW 70,000 for short films and KRW 180,000 for feature-length films. No additional submission or screening-related fees are charged.
