Moviate Underground Film Festival presents experimental, avant-garde and independent cinema in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Its programme spans animation, documentary and narrative work, with a particular commitment to projecting Super 8 and 16mm prints and supporting films made in Central Pennsylvania. Moviate, an artist-run, volunteer nonprofit collective, programmes the festival alongside year-round film and sound events.

The festival dates back to April 1998. Its screenings include international short-film programmes, features and appearances by visiting filmmakers. The 27th edition dates are 28–31 May 2026, with all programmes at Midtown Cinema, including live musical accompaniment to 16mm films.

Festival rules

Original films from any year are eligible. Explicit content requires a disclaimer for programming purposes. The entry fee must match the film’s length and format before consideration; disqualified entries receive no refund. Submitters must have authority to commit the film for screening. The festival and its media partners may use submitted biographies, stills and clips for promotion before the event and for one year afterwards. Super 8 and 16mm prints are preferred where possible, and films produced in Central Pennsylvania receive particular consideration.
