ANIMARIO focuses on contemporary animation while also exploring the history of the medium. Organized by Cineteca Madrid within Matadero Madrid, the festival combines an international short film competition with feature screenings, talks, master classes and workshops. Its selection welcomes different techniques and gives particular attention to creative approaches that connect animation with other artistic disciplines.

Alongside its competition for completed films, ANIMARIO supports independent short film projects through a production award for creators or companies based in Spain. Curated by Carolina López, the festival takes place in Madrid, Spain. The dates for the 2026 edition are 10–13 December 2026.
