Kustendorf centres on short films by emerging directors and encounters with established filmmakers in Drvengrad, the wooden village at Mokra Gora in Serbia. Rasta International organises the festival, whose founder is director Emir Kusturica. Its programme combines an international short-film competition with contemporary feature films, retrospectives and workshops led by visiting film authors.

Screenings take place in the village’s cinemas, including the Damned Yard theatre and Noam Chomsky amphitheatre. Concerts and exhibitions accompany the film programme. The festival dates back to 2008 and presents auteur cinema in a setting without a red carpet, billboards or advertising.
