Its selection includes Italian documentaries on social issues and trailers for works in production; Giovani Visioni invites young people to portray their territory through short videos.

The seventh edition dates are 27–29 May 2021, across Salemi, Segesta and Gibellina. Its themes are communities, theatres and cultures, with a programme that also includes activities for schools.

Festival rules

Historical regulations: seventh edition, originally labelled 2020 and rescheduled to 27–29 May 2021. These are archived conditions, not a current call. Documentary and trailer selection. Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva–CRESM organizes the festival under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Maiorana. The stated purpose is to use documentaries for analysis and discussion of social and contemporary issues, support Italian documentary production and give visibility to places in the Belìce Valley. The venues specified in the regulations are Salemi, the Archaeological Park of Segesta and Gibellina. Two sections accept submissions: Italian documentaries on social and cultural issues, up to 50 minutes, and trailers for documentaries in production on those issues, up to five minutes. Previous participation or awards at other festivals do not prevent entry. Each author or production may enter one work, including a collaboration. Admission and final selection are at the artistic director’s sole discretion. The language clause accepts English-language documentaries or documentaries in another language with Italian subtitles. Documentary registration costs €100. The completed, signed registration form must be in Italian and accompanied by one DVD copy of the documentary; a trailer in MOV, MP4 or AVI format; an Italian and/or English synopsis of no more than 2,000 characters including spaces; an Italian director biography of no more than 800 characters including spaces; the director’s filmography with titles and production years; high-resolution photographs whose publication is authorized free of charge; and a high-resolution photograph of the director. The application form additionally requests proof of payment and allows other information about the author. Materials must be posted by 27 March 2021, with the postmark establishing the date, to Belìce/EpiCentro della Memoria Viva–CRESM, Viale Empedocle 7/A, 91024 Gibellina (TP). The application and proof of payment must also be sent in advance to direzione@epicentrobelice.net. Participants pay shipping costs. Submitted works are not returned and are retained in the organizer’s archive for documentation. Entry authorizes promotional, educational, research and consultation uses, including outside the festival, while excluding commercial use and protecting authors’ and producers’ interests. The selection copy is also the screening copy. Authors are responsible for the work, images and music and declare that they have met all obligations to third-party rights holders. The organizer disclaims liability for loss during shipping and for damage or loss after receipt. The Italian text governs; requesting admission implies unconditional acceptance. Selection, programming and screening schedules are exclusively the management’s responsibility. Giovani Visioni competition, 2020-labelled regulations with 2021 deadlines. Entry is free and open to nonprofessional young authors aged 13–20, individually or in groups of no more than three authors. Each author or group may submit one video of up to five minutes concerning places and people in the municipalities of the three provinces of the Belìce Valley. The theme is leaving/staying, regenerating and caring, with attention to the territory’s artistic, cultural and environmental identity. Off-topic, racist, propagandist, discriminatory or violence-promoting works are excluded, as are advertising, promotional and advertorial videos or accounts of a person’s business or company. These restrictions also apply to titles. Required materials are a DVD PAL video, a presentation of no more than one page, a fully completed paper application bearing the original signature of the director/author, a copy of valid identity documentation and authorization for publication. A parent or guardian must authorize minors’ participation and provide identity documentation. Videos showing people require the attached release form. Materials and application must be enclosed in a sealed envelope marked “Concorso – Giovani Visioni 2020”, mailed or hand-delivered to BELìCE/EPICENTRO DELLA MEMORIA VIVA, Viale Empedocle 7/A, 91024 Gibellina (TP). Participants meet production and shipping costs. Submitted documents and media are not returned and enter the organizer’s archive. Submissions must arrive by noon on 30 April 2021. Selected videos undergo a compliance check, are published online for public voting from 20 May 2021 and are also assessed by the scientific committee, its president and the artistic director. The two rankings are combined into an overall ranking. Public voting closes at noon on 26 May 2021; winners are announced during the 29 May 2021 Notte di Visioni in Gibellina. Results are published through the festival, Belìce/EpiCentro and CRESM websites and Facebook pages. Authors retain ownership but grant unlimited use for promotional and institutional purposes and declare that they hold the necessary copyright. The introductory terms permit use by project partners with prior communication to authors. Submitted works and personal data may be used and disclosed for the competition and institutional, cultural and promotional initiatives, including temporary or permanent exhibitions and books about the territory, without further authorization or remuneration. Written data-processing consent is required on the application under the Italian privacy provisions cited in the original regulations.
