Yosemite International Film Festival recognizes independent filmmaking and screenwriting, with an emphasis on environmental awareness and the natural world. Its competitions cover narrative features and shorts, documentaries, animation, experimental films, music videos, student work and television pilots, alongside separate feature-script, short-script and television-writing contests.
The festival traces its format to live events in Yosemite Valley, California, and identifies 2011 as its transition to an online awards competition without public film screenings. Jury recognition includes category prizes and the John Muir, Silver Sierra and El Capitan award tiers. The official archive includes the 2018 film and screenplay competition results.
