Experiments in Cinema approaches experimental film as a noncompetitive micro-community, with no juried prizes or VIP hierarchy. Produced by Albuquerque’s nonprofit Basement Films and directed by founder Bryan Konefsky, the festival presents international moving-image art alongside live multimedia performances, interactive projects, lectures, discussion groups and hands-on workshops. Its Youth Lens programme features student work and accepts submissions from filmmakers under 18 in New Mexico and internationally.

The selection welcomes films of any production year and proposals for expanded cinema, emphasizing experiments with form and content. The 2027 edition, EIC v22.3, takes place in Albuquerque on 15–18 April 2027, with online viewing on 29 April–11 May 2027.
