Cineffable puts films by women and/or lesbian filmmakers at the centre of a festival devoted to lesbian and feminist cultures in Paris. Its selection spans international shorts and features, fiction, documentaries, animation and experimental work. An entirely volunteer association runs the event collectively, alongside screenings throughout the year that are open to everyone. The festival itself welcomes women and/or lesbians, including non-binary lesbians.
The event dates back to a lesbian film club in 1989. Film screenings share the programme with discussions, workshops, visual art, performances and an opening concert. Volunteers subtitle the films, including French-language works. The 38th edition dates are 29 October–1 November 2026 at Espace Reuilly in Paris, with 50 films in the programme.
Festival rules
2026 film entry conditions: The festival accepts short and feature-length fiction, documentary, animation and experimental films on lesbian and/or feminist themes. Films must be directed exclusively by women and/or lesbians. Submission is free; the 2026 entry period is 16 February–3 May. Each film requires its own completed entry form and a transcript in the original language or English, including French-language films.
Preview materials: DVDs and digital files are accepted; master copies should not be sent for preview. DVDs must identify the film, running time, format, director and contact telephone number. Press materials and stills are encouraged. Preview materials for selected films remain in Cineffable's video library, accessible only to association members.
Selection: Cineffable's programming commission chooses the films and notifies filmmakers by post or email. There is no exclusivity requirement. Compliant screening files must arrive by 30 June 2026. The online form requests a viewing link, film details, filmmaker biography and contact details, screening fee and available screening formats; for a film shorter than ten minutes with no screening fee stated, it specifies free screening rights.
Technical delivery: The form specifies H.264 or H.265 digital video, best-quality conversion above 20 Mb/s, Main, High or ProRes light, AAC 48 kHz audio and .mov or .mp4 container, a maximum file size of 25 GB for a feature, and minimum resolution of 720 × 400. DCP is not accepted. Blu-ray is listed, with DVD only if no other format is available.
Transport and insurance: The sender pays shipping and insurance for preview copies. The producer or director pays transport, insurance and customs costs for screening masters sent to the festival; Cineffable pays onward shipment to another festival or return to the sender. Liability for loss or damage is limited to the cost of producing a replacement copy.
Promotion and rights: Unless expressly excluded, Cineffable may use extracts of selected works free of charge for publicity in the press, radio, television, online and festival trailers, up to three minutes per film. The online form also states that selected films' trailers appear on the website and/or social media. The submitter must obtain the rights holders' express permission and indemnify Cineffable and its representatives against third-party rights claims, damages and legal costs. Volunteers subtitle all films, including French-language works. These subtitles remain the association's intellectual property and may be supplied to other festivals only with rights-holder permission and payment of applicable screening rights. Submitting requires acceptance of the full regulations.
