La.Meko presents short films across genres in Landau in der Pfalz, Germany, combining a selection from filmmakers around the world with informal, unconventional introductions. Screenings use the films’ original soundtracks; non-German-language works normally carry English subtitles, and many German films also have English subtitles. Audience members vote for their favourites after each programme block, alongside awards selected by a jury. The festival’s mascot, the Landauer Medienkobold, also gives its name to the winners’ trophy.

Filmfestival Landau e.V., a nonprofit association run by volunteers, organises the event. The 21st edition runs from 25 to 31 October 2026 at Universum Theater Landau. Its programme includes short-film blocks and a closing awards gala with complete screenings of the winning films.

Awards and prizes

The festival presents jury and audience awards. Permanent categories include Best International Film, the Audience Award and the Regional Award; other categories can change between editions. Cash prizes range from €250 to €500, with €500 for the main prize. Winners receive the Landauer Medienkobold trophy.

Festival rules

Films must be no longer than 30 minutes and contain no promotional content. German-language films are accepted; films in other languages require English and/or German subtitles. Films must not have been submitted to La.Meko previously and must be free of third-party rights. An HD screening file must be available. Each director may submit up to two films, using a separate online application and streaming preview link for each. Submission is free; the festival does not pay screening licence fees for competition submissions.
