The Mexico City Videodance Festival explores choreography through cinematographic language. It accepts dance films from Mexico and abroad, including documentary, fiction and animation, and connects professionals and students of choreography, filmmaking and visual arts. Its programme combines screenings in Mexico City with an online exhibition platform and screenings through national and international collaborations.

The festival dates back to its first edition on 3–7 December 2016 and collaborates with Red Nacional de Arte. Environmental dance films are among the interests of its ninth edition. The dates of that edition are 14–17 August 2025, with screenings in different boroughs of Mexico City.

Festival rules

2025 ninth-edition regulations (archival call; entries are closed). Choreographers, audiovisual producers, groups, companies and artists may submit works connecting choreography and cinematic language, using any movement vocabulary or audiovisual medium. Documentary, fiction and animation are eligible; the festival also seeks dance films with an environmental focus. Each filmmaker may submit up to five Mexican or international works made in 2023–2025. There is no minimum or maximum running time. A committee chooses the official selection; its decision is final. Selected works may also appear in national and international exhibitions and events involving the festival during 2025. Selection results are published on the festival website, with participants contacted by email from festivalvideodanza@rednacionaldearte.com or festivalvideodanza@gmail.com. The edition offers a cash award for best videodance and honorary mentions for direction, choreography, photography, editing, sound design and documentary. Selected films may be made available online for public viewing one day after the award results, subject to the filmmaker's consent in the form. Participation authorizes the use of stills or extracts to promote the festival through printed and electronic materials, including trailers, posters, postcards and the online catalogue. Submission constitutes acceptance of the call and waiver of claims or legal action against the festival, its representatives and affiliates. Organizers decide matters not covered by the regulations.
