Environmental cinema and the mountain landscape of Serra da Estrela shape CineEco, organized by the Municipality of Seia in Portugal since 1995. Its competitions cover international and Portuguese-language features, shorts and medium-length films, alongside a regional panorama and films of up to ten minutes. Fiction, documentary, animation and experimental work explore relationships between people and the environment.

Screenings accompany debates, workshops and encounters with filmmakers and researchers. A network of festival extensions circulates films to audiences beyond Seia throughout the year. The dates for the 33rd edition are 8–16 October 2027 in Seia.

Festival rules

The published 2026 participation rules cover films addressing environmental issues, including fiction, documentary, animation, experimental work and visual art. International and Portuguese-language competitions distinguish features from short and medium-length work; separate sections cover the Serra da Estrela regional panorama and films of up to ten minutes. Submission is through the designated online platforms and requires film stills, a synopsis in the original language and English, and acceptance of the participation rules. Selected films require screening and promotional materials, director and producer information, and screening authorization. Films must not have burned-in subtitles; non-English films require an English subtitle file or transcript. Portuguese subtitles are supplied when available. The organizer may include submitted films in non-competitive screenings and educational, non-commercial festival extensions during the following twelve months. Edition-specific eligibility dates, fees and deadlines are set by the applicable participation regulations.
