CLAP 89 focuses on short films by directors who do not earn their regular living as cinema, video or television directors. Based in Sens in the Yonne department of France, it combines an international competition with professional and school juries. Sens-Fiction organises the festival, with a volunteer selection committee choosing the competition films. Screenings, conversations with filmmakers and workshops on cinema professions form part of its programme.
The festival presents its films at Cinéma Confluences in Sens, its home since 2017. The dates for the 39th edition are 2–4 April 2027.

Awards and prizes
The 2027 regulations require the jury to award the CLAP d’Or (€2,000) and the CLAP d’Argent (€1,000). These two prizes cannot be shared. The overall list may contain only one joint prize.
Prizes and monetary awards are paid exclusively to the director or directors of the winning films, rather than to producers, distributors or schools. The festival also appoints school juries with the cinema section of Lycée C. & R. Janot in Sens and secondary schools in the Sens area.
Festival rules
The 2027 competition is for short films by directors who are not salaried or regularly paid as cinema, video or television directors. Eligible films are produced after 1 November 2025 and run no longer than 20 minutes, including credits. Each director may submit one completed film. Films previously submitted cannot be entered again, including revised versions. Advertising and industrial films are excluded.
Entries are accepted through FilmFestPlatform or directly by Sens-Fiction. Selected films require an unencrypted DCP in flat 1.85 or scope 2.39. Foreign-language films require French subtitles; English subtitles are requested where possible for French-language films. DCP subtitles must use XML or MXF rather than embedded subtitles or SRT. Voice-over translation is not accepted. Two film stills at 300 dpi are required.
Films accepted into the official competition cannot be withdrawn. The CLAP d’Or and CLAP d’Argent films are made available on the Sens-Fiction website for at least one month after the awards announcement. The French version of the regulations governs interpretation.
