School filmmaking is the focus of Áčko, a competitive showcase organised by the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. The festival presents short audiovisual works made within higher-education programmes in Slovakia, with fiction, documentary and animation among its award categories. Students take part in organising the event as part of their coursework, and screenings sit alongside discussions and training activities for filmmakers.

The 30th edition dates are 20–24 October 2026 at the faculty on Svoradova 2A in Bratislava. Its theme, Optika času, explores time in life, education and cinema; the programme also revisits winning films from earlier editions.

Awards and prizes

The main jury may award best film, fiction film, documentary, animation, screenplay, cinematography, sound, editing, visual effects, music and production design, plus a special acting award. Awards normally recognise students involved in making the work; music, production design and acting are exempt from this student requirement. Prizes consist of an artwork and a diploma. Additional financial or material prizes may be arranged with partners. The jury may withhold categories, exceptionally share craft awards, or grant additional non-statutory awards.

Festival rules

The competition accepts school audiovisual works created within art or related higher-education programmes at institutions based in Slovakia. The producing institution must confirm the school production and clearance of rights, including music. Films must not have entered an earlier edition. English subtitles are required; works in languages other than Slovak or Czech also require Slovak or Czech subtitles. For the 2026 edition, eligible works have production dates from 1 August 2025 to 31 August 2026. An exception covers works made between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2026 that are selected by major international festivals requiring a world premiere. Directors, producers or executive producers submit with their institution informed.
