School screenings in the Trop Classe le ciné! programme and Ciné-Médina screenings for children sit alongside international animation competitions at FICAM in Meknès, Morocco. The festival presents short and feature films, virtual reality works, filmmaker masterclasses and practical workshops for students from Moroccan art schools. Its informal Thés à la menthe avec… conversations examine the work of animation artists.

The festival dates back to 2001. The Aïcha Foundation produces the event in partnership with the Institut français de Meknès, which oversees its artistic direction. The Grand Prix Aïcha de l’Animation supports a Moroccan short film project, while a francophone writing residency offers filmmakers a month in Meknès to develop animation projects.

Awards and prizes

The 2026 Court Compet’ regulations list the Grand Prix for an animated short film, worth EUR 3,000; a Special Jury Mention; Best Student Film; the Audience Award; the Junior Jury Award; and Best Film for Young Audiences. The festival also has an international animated feature competition and a virtual reality animation competition. The Grand Prix Aïcha de l’Animation supports a Moroccan short film project: its 2026 regulations provide MAD 50,000 from the Aïcha Foundation and a grant from the Institut français du Maroc for a one-month creative residency at Fontevraud Abbey in France.

Festival rules

The 2026 Court Compet’ regulations cover animated shorts produced from 1 January 2025, from any country and using any animation technique. The French regulations specify a duration of less than 30 minutes. Professional, student or graduation films, and films for young audiences have separate sections. Entry is free. Applications include an entry form, the director’s CV and photograph, two film stills and a screening file. French dialogue and subtitle files are required; French versions are preferred for young audiences. The selection committee’s decisions are final. Selected filmmakers grant screening rights for the festival. The French regulations govern disputes. The 2026 Grand Prix Aïcha de l’Animation accepts individual short film projects from Moroccan authors resident in Morocco, with a maximum completed length of five minutes. Projects already receiving public or private funding, institutional submissions and previous prize winners are excluded. Separate regulations apply to the feature film and virtual reality competitions. These conditions describe the 2026 edition; 2027 entry conditions are not specified here.
