Piccolo Festival Animazione takes animated short films beyond a single venue, linking San Vito al Tagliamento with cinemas and cultural spaces across Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. Organised by Associazione Viva Comix, it focuses on independent animation and its connections with illustration, music and contemporary art. The programme combines international and Italian competitions with Green Animation, Visual&Music and screenings for children and young people.

Masterclasses, animation workshops, exhibitions and live performances extend the screenings. The festival shares a submission route with Ljubljana’s Animateka while making its own selection. The dates for the 19th edition are 15–22 November 2026, with San Vito al Tagliamento as its centre and events in Pordenone, Udine, Trieste and Gorizia.

Awards and prizes

The 2025 award structure includes a Main Competition award, special mentions and an audience award. Separate awards recognise the Italian Competition, Green Animation and Visual&Music. Animakids and Animayoung awards are decided by school audiences, with age-specific screenings for children and secondary-school students. This describes the published 2025 structure; the 2026 award structure is not yet confirmed.

Festival rules

2026 submission route for the 19th edition: applicants using Animateka’s application form can consent to having their film considered for Piccolo Festival dell’Animazione. With that consent, the preview copy is forwarded to Piccolo’s organisers. Piccolo makes its own selection and notifies applicants directly. The two festivals share an entry call; Animateka’s separate competition categories and awards do not define Piccolo’s selection.
