Videorama gives experimental cinema a separate competition alongside international and Romanian short-film selections at Timishort. The festival in Timișoara, Romania, is organised by the Romanian Independent Film Association (ARFI) and favours auteur filmmaking, avant-garde work and Romanian premieres. Its programme encompasses fiction, documentary and animation.

Timishort dates back to 2009. Alongside its competitions, the festival presents TimiKids screenings for young audiences, Animation Panorama and film-school programmes. Its 2018 edition dates are 3–7 October 2018; that programme includes the Timishort Film Lab workshop and focus programmes on Macedonia and Lebanon.

Awards and prizes

The international competition awards the Timishort Trophy for Best Short Film. The national competition awards Best Romanian Film, while Videorama awards the best experimental film. Each jury may also give up to two special mentions. The Audience Award is decided by public voting on films in the international and national competitions. TimiKids awards are decided by the children in the audience.

Festival rules

The archived 2019 regulations specify a maximum running time of 30 minutes. Fiction, documentary and animation enter the main competitions, while experimental films enter Videorama. Films already screened at other festivals are eligible, with priority given to Romanian premieres. The national competition is for Romanian films. Submission requires a completed, signed entry form and a password-protected Vimeo screener. Films require English subtitles and an English synopsis. Screening copies are digital files using H.264 or DV compression. Selected filmmakers supply stills and an English dialogue list. The author is responsible for the film and accompanying images and authorises promotional excerpts of up to 90 seconds. These are archival conditions for the cancelled 2019 edition.
