Make Art Not Fear gives space to independent films across fiction, documentary, animation and music video, with award categories that also recognise experimental work and poetry films. Ramaldar Productions organises the festival in Porto, Portugal. Its programme accepts work from both experienced and first-time filmmakers, and its website pairs festival selections with interviews discussing individual filmmakers and their work.

The festival runs editions at different points in the year rather than following a single fixed annual date. FilmFreeway lists the 2026 dates as 15–30 October 2026.

Awards and prizes

Awards recognise short films, experimental work, poetry films, animation, documentary, music video and individual artistic and technical contributions. Selected filmmakers may order a festival trophy; an interview is included.

Festival rules

Submissions are digital. Non-English-language films require English subtitles or English dubbing. Entrants must hold the rights to the music in their films; supplied photographs may be used in festival promotion. Prior television broadcasts or theatrical releases do not exclude a film. Accepted filmmakers cover their own travel and accommodation. Ramaldar Productions reserves the right to change the entry conditions.
