Womanimation! focuses on animated short film stories created by women around the world, combining narrative filmmaking with techniques ranging from traditional 2D and stop-motion to computer animation. MergingArts Productions organizes the competitive festival at venues around New England. Its history begins with a 2009 screening at Red River Theatres in Concord, New Hampshire, in conjunction with SWAN Day.
Audience members vote for their three favorite films, while a jury of women musicians associated with MergingArts Global Radio also selects a prize. Winners receive custom art objects made by previous festival filmmakers. The dates for the 2026 edition are 25 April 2026, at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston.

Festival rules
Films must be animated, directed by a woman and narrative in structure. Music videos, trailers and non-narrative experimental works are excluded. The 2026 guidelines accept films completed in 2024, 2025 or 2026; earlier films are ineligible. Submission is free, and the festival does not pay screening fees. Submissions are handled through Festhome.
