East&West. Classics and Avant Garde selects cinema from Europe, Asia and other regions for screenings in Orenburg, Russia, a city at the meeting point of Europe and Asia. Its programme combines an international feature competition, the open Russian feature competition Interwoven Parallels, and the Step short-film competition. Retrospectives, special screenings, children’s programmes and filmmaker masterclasses complement the competitions.

The festival dates back to 2008 and is organised by Fabrika Art Kino with support from the Orenburg regional government. Its principal award, the Golden Sarmatian Lion, takes its form from an ancient ornament associated with the region. The dates for the nineteenth edition are 21–27 August 2026.
