Experimental film and contemporary media art meet at the European Media Art Festival in Osnabrück, Germany. Organised by Experimentalfilm Workshop e.V., EMAF combines international artists’ films with installations, performances, talks and workshops. Guest-curated programmes and retrospectives connect current work with historical approaches, while the Campus section presents projects by European art academies and universities. The festival traces its origins to Osnabrück’s Experimental Film Workshop in 1981 and carries its present name from 1988.

The 40th edition’s festival dates are 21–25 April 2027; its exhibition at Kunsthalle Osnabrück runs from 21 April to 23 May 2027. The edition explores the archive as a site of knowledge production, critical intervention and alternative futures.
