Festival La Rochelle Cinéma (Fema) places film heritage alongside contemporary international cinema without a competitive selection. Its programme ranges from silent films and restored classics to French premieres, with filmmaker retrospectives, tributes to contemporary directors and performers, animation, documentaries and a dedicated children’s programme. Music forms another strand through film concerts and encounters with composers.

The festival traces its origins to 1973 and takes its present name in 2018. The Association du Festival International du Film de La Rochelle organises the event in La Rochelle, France, and supports year-round film education and filmmakers’ residencies. The dates for the 55th edition are 25 June–3 July 2027.

Awards and prizes

The festival’s film programme is non-competitive, with no festival competition jury or palmarès. Separately, the Prix Pierre-Chevalier recognise early-career filmmakers and producers whose films appear in the programme; these prizes have their own jury.

Festival rules

The official submission guidance welcomes fiction and documentary features that have not received a theatrical release before the festival. Feature selection mainly draws on international festivals. For unsolicited short-film proposals, the guidance specifies films shot in the Poitou-Charentes region. There is no submission form; viewing links are sent to info@festival-larochelle.org. The published annual deadline is 1 April.
