Macabro: Mexico City International Horror Film Festival
Macabro: Festival Internacional de Cine de Horror de la Ciudad de México
Contemporary independent horror sits alongside classic and cult cinema at Macabro in Mexico City. Founded in 2002 by Edna Campos Tenorio and Arturo Castelán, the festival operates through the nonprofit Arte Audiovisual Alternativo, A.C. Its competitions cover international and Ibero-American horror features, dark fantasy and science-fiction features, and Mexican, international and animated shorts.
Macabro Lab provides workshops and professional training, while Macabro Coven supports women working in horror. The festival also coordinates the FANTASTIKA Ibero-American horror and fantasy coproduction forum and takes programmes to other Mexican cities through México Macabro. The dates of the 25th edition are 12–23 August 2026, with screenings at venues across Mexico City and a complementary digital programme.
