The festival traces its origins to a University of Regina student festival in 1988 and adopts its present name in 2012.

The 38th edition dates are 19–21 March 2027 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. The University of Regina campus hosts the three-day event, which includes student film screenings, professional learning opportunities and a film celebration and gala.
