Children and young people alone judge the competitions at ManuFest in Yerevan, including feature films, animation, French cinema and films from the Visegrad countries. Pupils from Armenian schools and creative centres, including Ayb School and Tumo, serve on its juries. Alongside screenings, the festival takes masterclasses and creative meetings to Armenia’s regions and involves children from orphanages, socially vulnerable families and children with disabilities. Its events operate on a charitable basis.

The festival traces its origins to 2001 and its first 21 editions carry the name “Rolan” International Film Festival for Children and Youth. Its organiser, the Armenian Rolan Bykov Foundation, adopts the name Manu Fund in 2026, when the festival becomes ManuFest. The name derives from the Armenian word manuk, meaning child. The dates for the 22nd edition are 4–8 November 2026.

Festival rules

Archived regulations for the 15th Rolan International Film Festival for Children and Youth (2019): entry is free for Armenian and international productions and co-productions made in 2017–2019. The competitive and non-competitive programmes accept films for children and youth, including fiction, animation and documentaries on children’s rights. Films lasting 55 minutes or more count as features; shorter films count as shorts. The 2019 regulations require DVD submissions by normal post, with the completed entry form, a director’s CV and photographs, film stills, an English synopsis, English subtitles and dialogue list, and posters. The deadline in the regulations is 1 July 2019. Senders cover shipping and customs costs; submitted DVDs remain in the festival archive. Exhibition copies are required on DVD, with English subtitles where applicable. The organiser may retain a digital copy for non-commercial educational and cultural screenings. These conditions concern the 2019 edition.
