Lanterna Mágica combines animation screenings in Goiânia, Brazil, with education and a professional film market. Its competitive sections cover Brazilian, international and student animated shorts and Ibero-American animated features. Alongside cinema and outdoor screenings, Lanterna Educa provides activities for public-school students, workshops and project development laboratories, including LAMP and the IPÊ student project incubator. Lanterna Film Market centres on co-production meetings, panels, case studies and masterclasses.
The festival dates back to 2017 and is produced by CSNR Produções and Baloo Filmes. The dates for its eighth edition are 23–29 March 2026.

Festival rules
The eighth-edition regulations cover Brazilian, international and student animated shorts and Ibero-American animated features. Shorts have a maximum running time of 25 minutes. Films first screened at a festival before 1 July 2024 and films previously selected or screened by Lanterna Mágica are ineligible. Previously submitted films that were not selected may reapply if eligible. Medium-length films, series episodes and music videos are shown by invitation only.
Entries are submitted through FilmFreeway or invited by the festival. Each film enters one category. The entry must include stills, a synopsis, production country, director information and the complete film. Films in languages other than Portuguese, English or Spanish need subtitles in one of those languages; English subtitles are required for exhibition. Student-short entrants also submit a project in development to the IPÊ student incubator, with project materials and proof of enrolment.
The curatorial board assigns competitive and non-competitive screenings. Selected filmmakers supply the requested screening copies and publicity materials. Submission authorizes festival exhibition without a screening payment and promotional use of submitted materials and excerpts of up to 30 seconds. Optional permission covers free, non-commercial touring screenings. The Portuguese regulations prevail in case of disagreement between language versions.
