ALCINE centres on Spanish and European short-film competitions in Alcalá de Henares, with the Teatro Salón Cervantes as its main screening venue. Jointly organised by the city council and the Community of Madrid, the festival dates back to 1970 and the initiatives of the Cine-Club Antonio de Nebrija. Its programme includes fiction, documentary, animation and experimental shorts, while Pantalla Abierta presents first features by filmmakers with a connection to ALCINE. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences lists the national and European first prizes as short-film qualifying awards. ALCINE Pro provides professional meetings and workshops; educational screenings, exhibitions, specialist publications and concerts extend the programme beyond the competitions.

The dates for the 55th edition are 5–15 November 2026 in Alcalá de Henares, Spain.

Festival rules

ALCINE 55 (2026): entry to the National and European Short Film Competitions is free. The European Competition regulations accept films made after 1 January 2025, with a maximum running time of 40 minutes, not previously entered at ALCINE, subject to an invitation exception. Predominantly Spanish productions or films directed predominantly by Spanish nationals enter the National Competition; the selection committee may also select them for the European Competition. European Competition submissions use an online viewing link; selected films supply a DCP or supported video file and separate Spanish and English SRT subtitles. Films may also be selected for children’s, comedy, fantasy and horror sections. Optional Filmin participation lasts up to 30 days from the festival’s start, with 60% of viewing revenue allocated to participating films and 40% to Filmin. The 2026 entry deadline is 20 July 2026 at 14:00.
