Education through life stories shapes the International Education Film Festival in Évreux, Normandy. Organised by the national association Ceméa since 2004, it screens fiction, documentary and animation about childhood, learning, work, intergenerational transmission and discrimination. Its selections span short, medium-length and feature films, with programmes tailored to young audiences from nursery school to secondary school.

Filmmaker discussions and round tables connect cinema with educational practice. Young people participate as jury members, critics and web reporters, while the festival’s Échos extend screenings to other French regions and partner events abroad. The main dates of the 22nd edition are 1–4 December 2026 at Cinéma Pathé Évreux, with preliminary screenings for children and families on 25 November 2026.

Awards and prizes

The short and medium-length competition has a Grand Prize, decided by a jury of education, cinema and press professionals, and a Youth and Student Jury Prize. Separate juries award the Grand Prize for Feature Fiction and the Grand Prize for Feature Documentary. Under the 2026 regulations, award-winning films are subject to a non-exclusive rights purchase allowing Ceméa to organise up to 20 screenings during the following three years through the festival’s decentralised Échos.

Festival rules

2026 participation requirements: Short and medium-length films run 1–60 minutes and address education broadly, including learning, citizenship, inclusion, discrimination, cultural transmission or the environment. Adult and adolescent selections accept films completed from 1 January 2025; young-audience films for ages 3–15 must be completed before 30 June 2026. Features run at least 61 minutes and must have no French theatrical or VOD release before 1 December 2026; the general regulations also exclude earlier television broadcasts. Submit by email using an online viewing link. The current submission page accepts streaming links and excludes download links. Films must be in French or have French subtitles. Previously submitted films cannot be resubmitted. Several works may be entered, but only one per filmmaker may enter competition. Selection decisions are final. Selected films require DCP or HDV screening copies, publicity materials with appropriate rights, and compliance with music-rights requirements. Promotional excerpts are limited to 10% of the film and three minutes. Senders cover delivery; organisers cover return shipping. Entry implies acceptance of the festival regulations.
