Kinolikbez favours independent avant-garde filmmaking and experiments with film language. Its competition encompasses international and Russian live-action cinema, documentary, animation and film essays. Screenings follow an informal format of short blocks, filmmaker contributions and audience questions, with free admission as a principle of the festival.
The festival dates back to 2010 in Barnaul and is a cultural project of the Likbez literary almanac. The dates of its eleventh edition in Saint Petersburg are 29 July–1 August 2021, at the Na Morskoy creative space. A cancellation notice appears on the official website in 2022; the festival’s submission page continues to list entries as closed.

Awards and prizes

Golden Jean-Luc awards recognise live-action features and shorts, documentaries, animation and film essays. A Grand Prix may distinguish a film across categories. Silver Jean-Luc prizes recognise experimental or original filmmaking and individual artistic achievements; their titles refer to films by Jean-Luc Godard. An audience prize is also part of the programme.

The festival accepts independent experimental live-action, documentary and animated films: features longer than 60 minutes and shorts up to 30 minutes. Entry is free. Films are submitted electronically for selection. Preferred formats are AVI, MP4, MOV and MPG, up to 3 GB, with image dimensions from 720×480 to 1920×1080.
Non-Russian films require Russian subtitles; the English regulations also permit a Russian dialogue list. The Russian regulations allow non-commercial festival and Echo of Kinolikbez screenings. The English text permits promotional excerpts of up to one minute.
