Festival Premiers Plans d'Angers is devoted to first films by European directors and has taken place every January in Angers, France, since 1989. Organised by the Association Premiers Plans, its competition covers first and second European feature films, first European and French short films, films from European film schools, animated shorts, the Diagonales section and Chenaplans, a selection of animated shorts for children aged 3 to 9 who vote for the winners themselves. For the competition, Europe includes the countries of the former Soviet Union.

Beside the competition, professional actors read screenplays in front of the audience, and retrospectives revisit European cinema history. Since 2005 the festival has hosted the Ateliers d'Angers, founded with Jeanne Moreau for young filmmakers preparing a first feature.

Entry fees are €30 for features, €10 for shorts and €7 for student films; payments are non-refundable. All films must be made after 1 January 2025. For these regulations, Europe includes European countries and countries of the former Soviet Union. Unless the festival grants an exception, a film submitted the previous year cannot be submitted again. Films must be mainly European productions or co-productions, run over 59 minutes and have no commercial distribution or broadcast in France. • Diagonales: first films of any length, mainly European productions or co-productions, without commercial distribution or broadcast in France; earlier television work does not count. The programming team selects this section from feature and short-film entries. • First European shorts: mainly European productions or co-productions, excluding school films; fiction must run under 59 minutes and documentaries under 40 minutes. • First French shorts: productions or co-productions in France, excluding school films; fiction must run under 59 minutes and documentaries under 40 minutes. • Student films: films produced in a European film school or faculty, under 59 minutes. • Animated shorts: first shorts or school films, mainly European productions or co-productions, under 59 minutes. • Chenaplans: first animated shorts or animated school films, mainly European productions or co-productions, under 59 minutes and accessible to children aged 3–9. The programming team selects this section from animated-short entries. A selection committee under the general delegate and artistic director chooses the films; its decisions are final. The regulations describe a selection of 15 features, 20 first shorts, 30 school films and 20 animated shorts. Selected films receive no more than three festival screenings, except Chenaplans films, which receive additional screenings for children's voting. Selected films require an unencrypted DCP without a KDM key, named according to the Digital Naming Convention. Chenaplans films also require ProRes 422 HQ; short-film DCPs require a ProRes 422 HQ backup. Film and director photographs must be supplied. Digital screening copies are requested as soon as selection is announced and no later than 18 December 2026, preferably with French subtitles, or English subtitles if French is unavailable. French-language films require English subtitles. The sender pays for delivery of screening media to Paris or Angers. Producers and distributors cannot request payment for competition screenings. The festival pays for return of media within two weeks after the event and reserves the right to screen some prize-winning films before returning them. Liability for loss or damage between receipt and return is limited to the replacement value of the affected copy or part. Jury and audience prizes cover features, Diagonales, shorts, student films, animation, screenplay readings, acting and Chenaplans. Prize numbers and amounts are indicative, based on the previous edition and subject to change. Prizes are paid within three months after the event; winners may use prize money within 18 months of the awards ceremony. Voting ballots can be consulted on request to info@premiersplans.org until 26 February 2027. Winners, producers and distributors must credit their festival selection or the full prize name together with the festival logo on promotional material, including posters, credits, announcements, press kits and websites. The festival supplies laurels. The Association Premiers Plans processes rights holders' personal data to manage its relations with them under these regulations, applies security measures and states that data is deleted ten years after the end of the agreement. Rights requests can be sent to dpo@premiersplans.org or to the Data Protection Referent, Premiers Plans, 9 rue Jeanne Moreau, 49100 Angers, with a signed identity document; a reply is due within one month. Unresolved complaints may be addressed to the CNIL. Rights holders remain responsible for processing within their own organisations. Submission constitutes unconditional acceptance of the regulations. The French text prevails in interpretation disputes; festival management decides matters not covered by the rules. The civil court of Angers has sole jurisdiction. Competition enquiries: competition@premiersplans.org.
