KaPow Intergalactic Film Festival takes its comic-book identity beyond science fiction, accepting short and long projects across animation, documentary, mockumentary, experimental film and music video. Its selection also extends to television pilots, web and new media, trailers, public service announcements, podcasts, virtual reality and social media videos. The festival is based in North Hollywood, California, with Laemmle NoHo 7 as its usual cinema venue.
Its Kapowee awards distinguish genres, formats and filmmaking crafts, and a project entered in several categories can receive multiple awards. The latest edition documented on the festival website is the online Filmocracy edition of 19–28 February 2021, with filmmaker interviews accompanying the programme.

Festival rules
Published submission rules for the 2021 edition:
1. Selected filmmakers receive notification and become eligible for award nominations in the categories they enter. Selection and nomination laurels are available by email on request.
2. The first project attracts the full entry fee; additional projects by the same filmmaker receive a 50% discount. The published number for obtaining the discount code is 323-905-2769.

Exhibition materials: selected features, shorts, music videos and episodic series require a one-sentence synopsis, a 150-word synopsis, trailers, clip reels, posters, postcards and an electronic press kit. Supply a 1080p or 720p video through Dropbox; closed captions are optional. Every project must include credits and a 1200 × 1600 poster in its Dropbox folder, and the folder link must be emailed to the festival. The source gives the address as “KaPowIFF (at) gmail”. Screenwriters can participate in live readings of scenes; podcasts are made available online to attendees.
