Fire!! LGTBIQ+ Barcelona Film Festival
Fire!! Festival de Cinema LGTBIQ+ de Barcelona
Fire!! is Barcelona’s festival of LGBTIQ+ cinema, organised by Casal Lambda, a non-profit LGBTI association active in the city since 1976. The festival began in 1995 and describes itself as the first LGBTI film festival in Spain. It was known as Mostra Lambda until 2008, when it took its current name, a tribute to Fire!!, the 1920s Harlem Renaissance magazine led by the writer Richard Bruce Nugent.
Over about two weeks in June, mainly at the Institut Français de Barcelona, the festival screens art-house fiction features, documentaries and short films with LGBTIQ+ themes, with strands such as Trans Screen and a yearly thematic focus, “The Gaze of…”, alongside an educational programme. The festival team gives the Ventura Pons Award to the best fiction feature, and audiences vote for their own awards. The Fire!! Pro strand adds round tables and Fire!! Lab, a development lab for LGBTIQ+ series projects. The 2027 edition runs 10–20 June 2027.
