FilmFest by Rogue Dancer presents dance films through monthly online programmes, with works from different countries arranged around changing curatorial themes. Run by Rogue Dancer Productions, the festival focuses on movement made for the camera and on reaching audiences beyond live dance venues. Founded by dance filmmaker and curator Jennifer Scully-Thurston, the festival dates back to October 2019.

The programmes connect choreography and filmmaking across different approaches to screendance. The organiser publishes illustrated playbills with film descriptions and creative credits, alongside links to online showcases. An archive preserves earlier themed programmes, including a dedicated student selection, while separate patron screenings accompany some monthly events. The latest dated programme published on the official website is Demon dance, 25 October–10 November 2024. Its films explore psychological and supernatural subjects through dance, movement and the camera.

Festival rules

Films must contain dance and a filmmaking element; recordings of stage performances without a filmmaking element are ineligible. Choreography created for the camera is eligible, including microfilms, shorts, animation and features of any genre, production date or culture. Submissions go through FilmFreeway as downloadable high-resolution MP4 files, with director and choreographer names and at least one high-resolution still; a trailer is requested when available. Submission permits online presentation, possible companion live or sister events, promotional use of stills and clips, upload to the festival Vimeo showcase, inclusion in the Rogue Dancer Archive and addition to the mailing list. Submitters must hold the music rights. The organiser selects themed programmes monthly, retains films for possible later selection, communicates with filmmakers before screenings and allows withdrawal. Public showcases are removed after their screening period, while films remain in the archive.
