Eindhoven Film Festival focuses on independent cinema that questions conventional filmmaking, from experimental shorts and documentaries to animation, fiction and moving-image installations. Organised by film platform BROET in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, EFF combines international work with attention to filmmakers from North Brabant. Screenings at venues including Natlab and TAC sit alongside workshops, filmmaker conversations, exhibitions and live film scores, extending the programme beyond a conventional cinema screening.
The dates of the 2019 edition are 28 November–1 December 2019. BROET now concentrates on its makerspace, talent development and screenings and professional events throughout the year, carrying forward the festival’s emphasis on experimentation and regional film talent.
Festival rules
Archived conditions for EFF 2020 (not a current call for entries).
ELIGIBILITY AND GENERAL CONDITIONS
The programme accepts fiction, animation, experimental and art films, music videos, virtual-reality projects and documentaries, with an emphasis on work that crosses conventional boundaries. A premiere is not compulsory; work without recent wide exposure may receive priority. Submission is through Festhome. The written conditions specify 16 August 2020 as the final submission date. Films require English subtitles; for English-language films these are preferred rather than compulsory. Trailers, films, synopses and stills supplied with an entry may be used for festival publicity. The organisers decide unforeseen or unclear cases and may depart from the regulations in such circumstances. Selection decisions are final and are not open to correspondence; individual feedback is unavailable because of submission volume.
SUBMISSION MATERIALS AND DATES
1. Upload the film to Festhome by 16 August 2020.
2. Provide three to five still images at a minimum of 300 dpi, preferably in CMYK rather than RGB.
3. Provide an English synopsis of no more than 90 words.
4. Selection notification is on 1 October 2020.
5. Deliver the screening DCP by 18 October 2020. Installation or exhibition presentations do not require a DCP; the organisers contact the filmmaker individually in those cases.
6. Also supply a MOV or MP4 copy for promotional purposes.
7. Supply a complete cast and crew list.
8. Submitted documents are not returned.
RIGHTS AND INDEPENDENCE
By entering, the submitter confirms ownership of the film rights or another valid right to submit it. Entry also confirms that the film is an independent production, not made for commercial purposes with commercial funding.
SELECTION
The festival may move an entry to another category. A higher category fee is charged to the submitter; a lower category fee does not generate a refund. A professional jury selects and nominates the films, with final authority over selection. Reasons for selection or rejection are not discussed or supplied. Films with technical faults or stuttering playback are excluded.
SCREENING DELIVERY
After notification on 1 October, selected filmmakers have until 18 October to deliver a DCP. Missing this deadline may lead to cancellation of selection or nomination. Filmmakers needing assistance should contact the festival. DCP filenames must follow the Digital Cinema Naming Convention. English subtitles are required except that they remain optional, though preferred, for English-language films. The published technical contact is wouter@eindhovenfilmfestival.nl.
HOSPITALITY
Selected filmmakers receive complimentary day tickets. Nominated filmmakers based outside the Netherlands receive an invitation. Support covers their stay in Eindhoven, not travel costs.
LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY
The submitter is responsible for compliance with Dutch law; the festival accepts no liability for infringements. Submission constitutes acceptance of the general conditions.
