Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre (BARS) focuses on independent horror, fantasy, science fiction and bizarre cinema from Argentina and around the world. Its roots lie in a small independent-film showcase founded in 2000, and its competitive format dates from 2004. Alongside feature and short-film competitions, the programme revisits Argentine genre cinema through rediscoveries and classic screenings. Talks, workshops and other activities extend its work beyond film exhibition.

The 27th edition runs from 19 to 29 November 2026 at Atlas Caballito in Buenos Aires. International, Ibero-American and Argentine feature competitions sit alongside the international short-film competition, with jury awards and audience prizes for features and shorts.

Festival rules

The 2026 regulations cover fantasy, bizarre, science-fiction and horror films. Competitive features must run over 60 minutes; international competitive shorts must run no longer than 25 minutes. Both competitive sections accept films produced after 1 January 2024. Non-competitive sections accept features of any production year and short or medium-length films without production-date or duration limits. Screeners are submitted online through the platforms linked from the official call. Competitive films must meet the festival's restrictions on electronic distribution, commercial theatrical release in Argentina and public exhibition in Buenos Aires and its surrounding area during the 180 days before the festival. Selected films cannot be withdrawn after the selection is announced. Non-Spanish-language films require Spanish subtitles or a dialogue/subtitle list in Spanish or English. Online exhibition requires explicit authorisation from the filmmakers. The official regulations determine final eligibility and screening arrangements.
