Absurd Film Festival combines monthly jury awards with an annual public screening in Cinisello Balsamo, near Milan, Italy. Its selection focuses on unconventional and independently produced cinema, with the Rebel Vision Award recognising films that express its rebellious, absurdist outlook. Films from any country and production year are eligible, across genres including animation, documentary and experimental work, with a running time below 60 minutes.

The jury evaluates submissions privately for monthly prizes in film, genre and technical categories, then chooses an annual selection for public exhibition. The ninth edition’s final event is on 10 April 2027 at the Auditorium of Centro Culturale Il Pertini.

Awards and prizes

Monthly jury awards include film, regional, length, genre and technical categories. Winners receive digital laurels. The Rebel Vision Award recognises independently produced films with a rebellious and absurdist creative approach. Special mentions are discretionary. The jury chooses an annual selection for public screening; annual awards include Best Film, Best Italian Film, Best Lombard Film and the Rebel Vision Award.

Festival rules

Submissions are accepted through FilmFreeway. Films must run under 60 minutes; all genres, countries and production years are eligible, and filmmakers may enter more than one work. Works promoting violence or hatred are excluded. Entrants must hold the relevant picture and sound rights and authorise festival screenings without compensation. The jury may reassign entry categories. Selected filmmakers must supply a screening file in at least Full HD 1080p. The festival may use submitted publicity materials, trailers and up to one minute of footage for promotion. Submission also permits promotional data sharing with partner festivals. The organiser resolves matters not covered by the regulations; the Italian version takes precedence in disputes.
