Run by a team of neurodivergent and neurotypical people, AS Film Festival uses cinema as a means of participation and social inclusion. The Rome festival is a project of the Not Equal cultural association, whose cinema activities date back to 2008. Its short-film competitions include Punti di Vista for Italian filmmakers, Points of View for international films and Animation Now! for animation. Ragionevolmente Differenti is a non-competitive section devoted to neurodivergence and autistic filmmakers.

The programme also includes ASFF 42HRS, a challenge in which selected filmmaking teams create an original short within 42 hours. The fourteenth edition takes place at Casa del Cinema in Rome on 14–15 November 2026.

Awards and prizes

The 2026 festival lists awards for Best International Short, Best Italian Short, Animation Now! and Junior Best Short, with special mentions for Reasonably Different films about autism. Professional juries assess the competitive sections, and the organizer may grant additional prizes and mentions. Main-section cash amounts remain to be defined. The separate ASFF 42HRS 2026 competition offers a jury prize of EUR 1,000 gross for Best Short Film and an audience recognition. Artistic and technical distinctions and additional mentions are at the jury’s and organizer’s discretion.

Festival rules

The short-film sections include Punti di Vista for Italian filmmakers, Points of View for international shorts, Animation Now! for animation and the non-competitive Reasonably Different section for autistic filmmakers and films about autism and neurodivergence. Authors may submit no more than three films, with each film entered in a single category. Competition shorts have a maximum running time of 20 minutes. Reasonably Different has no restriction on length, genre or technique. Non-Italian-language films require at least English subtitles and a separate standard-format subtitle file. Submissions are through FilmFreeway; international Points of View entries require a fee, while Punti di Vista, Animation Now! and Reasonably Different are free. Selected filmmakers provide screening and publicity materials and authorize promotional excerpts of up to one minute. The festival may also arrange non-commercial cultural screenings. ASFF 42HRS 2026 is a separate, free competition for teams of at least three members, selected from showreels or previous work. Participants supply their own equipment and work voluntarily. Ten finalist teams create an original film within the contest period. Films run 3–6 minutes, plus up to one minute of credits, and require at least 1080p resolution. Footage, animation and visual effects must be produced during the challenge; existing photographs and music require the necessary rights. A team representative attends the screening and awards. The organizer reserves non-exclusive cultural, promotional and online exhibition rights; authors retain ownership and keep the institutional credits.
