Première Brasil sits at the heart of Festival do Rio, pairing competitive and non-competitive selections of Brazilian features and shorts with an international programme of new cinema, thematic strands and special screenings. Fiction, documentary and animation share the programme. The festival dates back to 1999 and uses cinemas and cultural venues across Rio de Janeiro. RioMarket adds an audiovisual business and training programme, while Première Brasil Debates connects screenings with discussions involving film teams.

The 2026 main programme runs from 1–11 October in Rio de Janeiro, with additional in-person encore screenings from 12–14 October 2026 at Estação Claro Rio, Estação Claro Gávea and Cinesystem Belas Artes Botafogo.
