Short of the Week

Short of the Week is an online curation platform for short films, founded in 2007 by Andrew Allen and Jason Sondhi. Instead of an annual edition, its programmers select films year-round and release them on the Short of the Week website, its YouTube channel and the Shortverse community platform; the selection spans every genre and has featured more than 2,000 shorts from over 50 countries. Submissions are judged on what the editors call head, heart and hand: whether a film breaks new ground, whether it moves the viewer and how skilfully it is made. Story-driven work is preferred over music videos, effects showcases and purely promotional pieces.

Short of the Week is a qualifying online channel for short films at the British Independent Film Awards and is on the Canadian Screen Awards list of eligible festivals and online platforms. Since 2026 it also presents the Short of the Week Award at the Ouray International Film Festival in Colorado, with a release on the platform for the winner.
