Viborg Animation Festival

Viborg Animation Festival (VAF) is built around an international competition for animated short films, judged by an international jury of animation professionals who meet in Viborg for three days of screenings. Before that, every submitted short is viewed by two independent professionals on a pre-jury. Prizes cover best short, experimental and graduation films and a Zeitgeist Award, alongside a children's jury award, an audience award, the Pitchin' Award for a Danish animation idea aimed at adults and the ANIDOX:XR Award for animated documentary. VAF is on BAFTA's list of qualifying festivals for British Short Animation.

The festival has run since 2012 and is organised each year by The Animation Workshop together with Viborg Municipality and Creative Viborg. Around the competition it presents screenings, talks, workshops, masterclasses and exhibitions for the public, young animation talent and industry professionals. VAF is part of the Northern Animation Network, whose member festivals share one call for entries. The 2027 edition runs 6–12 September 2027 in Viborg, Denmark.
