Experimental video and animation form the core of the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival, alongside narrative shorts, documentaries and new media art. Established in 2010, the festival is organized by the Digital Art and Animation program in West Virginia University’s School of Art and Design in Morgantown, United States. It connects international and regional independent work with student filmmaking and the cultural heritage of Appalachia. Screenings and events are free and open to the public.

The 14th edition runs from 23–25 April 2027 at the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center. Its program includes film screenings, workshops, conversations with visiting filmmakers and video installations.
